Common Problems and Solutions

HEADACHES

Common Cause: Most headaches are caused by a misalignment of the upper cervical (neck) vertebrae.

Solution: Only Chiropractors can detect and correct these misalignments (subluxations).

Note: Some headaches have multiple causes (allergies, nutritional habits, and/or hormonal). Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to work with the entire body holistically.

EARACHES

Common Cause: Subluxation (misaligned vertebrae that pinches a nerve) of the C3 – C4 vertebrae in the neck.

Solution: Specific Chiropractic adjustments of the C3 – C4.

Note: Many chronic childhood earaches are caused by this subluxation and are often overlooked by allopathic physicians who try to use multiple antibiotics to treat the symptoms.

SINUS PROBLEMS

Common Cause: Subluxation of C2 or C3 vertebrae. The nerve being pinched between the vertebrae connects to the sinuses.

Solution: Specific Chiropractic adjustments to the C2 – C3 region.

Note: Many patients feel an immediate draining of the sinuses after the first adjustment.

SUBLUXATION OR MISALIGNED
VERTEBRAE

Treatment will include chiropractic adjustments, physiotherapy (meaning electric stimulation, massage, ultrasound, traction) and specific strengthening exercises called core strengthening and stabilization.

HERNIATED OR BULGED DISC

Common Cause: When the disc (the shock absorbers between the vertebrae) tears, the contents will bulge out into the spinal cord causing severe pain, numbness, and/or weakness in the arms or legs.

Solution: In most cases the tears in the disc have been caused by faulty biomechanics in the spine. Chiropractic adjustments to correct the biomechanics and specific “core strengthening” programs are essential to a full recovery.

Note: Dr. Ricci has saved hundreds of patients from surgery and addictive medications due to herniated discs.

STOMACH PROBLEMS

Common Cause: Subluxation of any of the mid back (thoracic) vertebrae T5 – T9.

Note: Pinching of the nerves at these levels can cause abnormal secretion of stomach digestion acid (HCL) leading to Acid Reflux Irritable Bowel Syndrome and abnormal digestion.

LOWER BACK PAIN

Common Cause: Misaligned vertebrae at the bottom of the spine (lumbar region) irritate or “pinch” the nerves that exist between them. These misalignments can be caused by poor posture, injuries, stress, and poor nutrition.

Solution: Chiropractors detect and correct these spinal misalignments allowing the body to heal naturally and completely.

Note: Dr. Ricci also believes that the muscle and ligaments that hold these vertebrae in place must be strengthened to protect the patient from re-injury.

HIP PAIN AND KNEE PAIN

Common Cause: Many hip and knee disorders are the result of the body making an abnormal biomechanical compensation for a spinal injury or misaligned pelvis.

Solution: Chiropractors align the entire skeletal structure in an effort to improve total body mechanics.

Note: Many of these hip and knee injuries end in surgery because the true cause of the pain is never found.

SCIATICA

Common Cause: Sciatica is a term that describes pain that radiates down the back of the thigh and leg. Sciatica is caused by pinching the nerve at the very bottom of the spine that turns into the Sciatic Nerve as it crosses the Piritormis muscle in the gluteal region. Sciatica can be caused by a bulged or herniated disc or a subluxation of L5 (the lowest lumbar vertebrae).

Solution: Treatments will vary based on the cause; however, all treatments help to correct the biomechanical problem in the lower spine and rehabilitate the surrounding muscles and ligaments.

Note: Dr. Ricci will help each patient with a specific exercise program to compliment the chiropractic adjustments.
